We are very fortunate in Surrey Harmony to have several new and established quartets! Quartets are a great way for Chorus members to develop their singing skills and practice, and our established quartets can provide entertainment to guests at a dinner party, wedding or charity fundraiser, so why not consider one for your next function?

That’s hello in Minion speak.  You’re probably thinking “Why are they speaking the language of those mischievous characters from the Despicable Me movies?”.

Well it’s a story that began in 2011 when we first got together.  We couldn’t decide on a name for the quartet for nearly two years before we finally settled on Oops!  It seems to suit us perfectly.

We all have very different personalities, but are bound together by a love of barbershop singing and having fun. Our rehearsals are often peppered with lots of laughter, and most importantly – cake!  Kate is the resident baker, Sarah is the banker, Vanja the barbershop geek and Louise is our admin guru.

We’ve been competing since 2013. But our best competition experience came in 2016 when we decided to enter the Open Division of the Region 31 contest. Our Minion themed package was voted the audience favourite.  We had enormous fun, but it was incredibly hard work.  So now you now why we speak Minion!

But we also love to sing for an audience. So if you’d like to book us for your event head over to our Facebook page and send us a message.

Sue is our baritone and really enjoys singing this part. Sue works with Ali arranging singouts for us. She helps with warm-ups and is the keeper of the pitch pipe. Also, she often hosts our rehearsals, providing essential supplies of wine and nibbles!

Trish is our bass, and very experienced she is too. She has been with the chorus since it started, and, like Sue, has competed in the quartet competition at our Regional convention. Trish is a speech therapist so tries to make sure we look after our voices, and keep them lubricated! She keeps records of our repertoire and keeps us organised with itineraries for singouts.

Ali sings tenor, and also with Surrey Harmony and Green Street Blues, and has a wealth of barbershop knowledge. She is always ready with a warm-up or breathing exercise. She also organises all of our costumes and travel arrangements.

Julie is the newest member of the family, having sung with Malarkey for three years, although she has been with Surrey Harmony for 10 years. She looks after our finances, collecting subs and fees from singouts. Julie shares practise hosting with Sue and has even been known to supply cake to help things along.

We all get huge pleasure from singing together, and singing for other people is one of our favourite things. Our varied list of songs has seen us singing at everything from charity rock festivals, weddings, groups for people with dementia, to Round Table events.
