Power of Women event

POW Event

Surrey Harmony were invited back to perform again recently at the Sutton Sound Lounge for another of their ‘Power of Women’ events.

The evening is dedicated to strong women, women who have experienced hardship, discrimination, disadvantage and difficulty.  Sound Lounge is a place where families and artists can come together and enjoy being in each others’ company, listen to fantastic music and upcoming performers. The organisation is ‘not-for-profit’ and created to support and offer a platform to local communities.

Once a month, women come together to celebrate womanhood and to listen to stories, poems and performances, to offer support and warmth to those who have not been given the best hand in life.

Surrey Harmony performed with a small group of singers a couple of months ago which was enjoyed by everyone and as a result were invited back to perform again.

The atmosphere in the venue was incredible, full of excitement about what the evening had to offer.  The Sound Lounge itself has the vibe of an old fashioned smokey bar with small tables, dim lighting, hustle and bustle, and a stage with a red curtain backdrop.  However, it’s extremely modern with the service of vegan food, twinkling fairy lights, large windows bringing the outside in and definitely no smoke.

The venue is intimate, with singing members seeing the whites of the audience’s eyes when they’re up on stage.  As a chorus we have a range of songs perfect for any occasion. On this evening, we performed ‘Brave’ by Sara Bareilles, ‘A Million Dreams’ written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for The Greatest Showman and ‘Happy Together’ written by Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon, recorded by American pop band the Turtles – all received with huge applause and cheers.

When we last performed we joined in as the whole venue sang, ‘This is Me’.  This time we have been asked to teach the audience a warm up song, so we took one of our favourites and taught it as a group.  We then split the crowd and sang in a round as our talented director led the room.

As last time, the evening was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed.  We are so proud to be again in the future.
