We all know globalisation is getting something of a bad press these days. But for us it’s brought 25 years of friendship, education and harmony. That’s because Surrey Harmony is celebrating a quarter of a century of being members of Sweet Adelines International. We chartered in February 1992 a few months after the Chorus was founded and started rehearsing at Coulsdon in Surrey.
We’ve enjoyed much success at home and abroad over the past 25 years. We are very proud of our five gold medals for outright wins at the Region 31 Convention, and our 15th place high at the International competition.
But for us it’s the threads of harmony stretching across the globe that is the most cherished aspect of our hobby. Former members have gone on to sing in other Sweet Adelines choruses in Sweden, Australia, New Zealand and various locations in America such as Alaska, Houston and Atlanta. We are always proud to see former Surrey Harmony members on stage regardless of whether they sing with another Sweet Adelines chorus or one from other organisations.
In a world full of increasing discord, Surrey Harmony is celebrating 25 years of harmonising with the world. And long may it continue.
