And a Happy New Year to you!

Well we all made it safely through the end of the mayan calendar and we are here in 2013.  Happy New Year!

2012 was a corker for Surrey Harmony.  In May we added another silver medal to our tally at regional convention in Birmingham.  We had the privilege of some top-notch coaching from Jim Arns and Jan Carley.  In October we watched our fabulous Baritone Beckie Puncher take to the international stage in Denver with her Quartet ‘Echo’ and didn’t they do well!  In December, our president Gloria tied the knot and provided us with another opportunity to sing.

Over the year we also performed in some really fabulous places including Loseley Park, St George’s Cathedral, The Miller Centre and we topped it all off with a live performance on BBC Surrey just in time for Christmas.

So what lies ahead for 2013?  Well, we have our regional conventional coming up in May, so we’ll be hitting the ground running with our two competition songs from the beginning of January.

Jim Arns is coming back too. Jim is the Director of The Melodeers Chorus in Chicago, who have won the International Championship a record seven times, and we are all thrilled that Jim will be spending another weekend with us in preparation for our regional competition.

We are also hoping to record a new CD during 2013, and of course there will be plenty of performances and shows to add to your diary.  Watch the website for information about these over the coming weeks and months.

January is a fabulous time to join the chorus, we always love to see new members on our risers.  If you are looking for some ‘me time’ and have been thinking singing could be just the ticket, then please pop along to a wednesday night rehearsal.  Doors open 7.30pm at Coulsdon Methodist Church Hall, Brighton Road, Coulsdon, Surrey, CR5 2BE.  It’s a great chance for you to just come along, listen, join in with the warm ups if you wish and get a feel for what we are about.  Bring a friend, the more the merrier, we’d love to see you.
