We came second! 623 big fat points!

Surrey Harmony proved once again that they are a leading player in British womens Barbershop by bagging the silver medal at this year’s Sweet Adelines Region 31 Competition.

Their fantastic performance of the “Dixieland One Step” and “I Never Meant To Fall In Love” amazed the audience and judges alike.  They scored 623 points out of a possible 800, putting them 8th in the queue for a wildcard place to Hawaii.
But the celebrations didn’t stop there!
Surrey Harmony are thrilled to congratulate Echo for their superb performance which clinched the gold medal in the Quartet competition.  Echo’s Baritone, Beckie Puncher, is a member of Surrey Harmony, and their Tenor, Karen Riley, performed with the chorus on stage in Houston.  It’s the first time a quartet from Surrey Harmony has won the gold and the chorus are delighted they will be heading to International Competition in Denver, in October.

And there’s more!  Any disappointment at coming second (and not first… grrr) was quickly banished when the gold medal was awarded to our friends in Viva Acapella!  Viva Acapella raised their score a massive 110 points on last year’s, and bagged both the Small Chorus Gold as well as overall Gold.  They have qualified for both the Harmony Classic and the main chorus semi-finals in Hawaii in October 2013.  We are so thrilled for them!  Not least because four of our members sing with Viva Acapella as well as Surrey Harmony.  Congratulations must go to Irene, Mary, Fi and Lindsey who had less than 15 minutes to change from their Surrey Harmony costume to their Viva Acapella outfit.  Clothes, shoes, eye shadow, lipstick and even nail varnish all needed swapping in the time it takes most of us to apply just one.  Now that deserves a medal!
