Quartets shine at regional competition.

It was a very different Sweet Adelines Region 31 Convention for Surrey Harmony this year.  Owing to the fact that we are competing at International in Houston as a wild card entry in October this year, we took the decision not to perform in Birmingham for evaluation but to put all our fundraising efforts into getting over seventy ladies to the US.  Nevertheless, an enthusiastic and vocal contingent in Surrey Harmony orange made the journey to Birmingham and thoroughly enjoyed a weekend of incredible competition, with a little partying thrown in.

On Friday, our Surrey Harmony quartets gave us plenty to cheer for.  Hunky Dory, Timeless UK and Echo looked and sounded amazing and did us proud, with Echo coming away with the bronze medal.  Gold was won by Finesse, who will join us in Houston.  Assistant Director Judith rounded off the evening by directing the whole auditorium in a lively rendition of our director Jenny’s composition, Quartet of Nations.

Saturday left Surrey Harmony feeling a little underdressed and made-up as other choruses appeared dressed for battle.  Four of our members competed withViva Acappella Chorus and came home with gold medals in the small chorus competition and 9th place overall.  Each year the competition gets tougher, and this year’s judges commented that they had really been put through their paces.  Forth Valley Chorus came away with the gold, and will go on to represent our region in Denver in 2012.

Surrey Harmony are so proud of those members who competed this year.  What a fantastic bunch of women they are.  We hope to have some photos up shortly.  We are also looking forward to getting back into the glitz next year!
