Last Saturday, Surrey Harmony, threw a party to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The chorus was founded in 1990 by Director Jenny Lawson and has steadily grown in numbers to the 87-strong vocal powerhouse it is today.
At the party, Jenny Lawson was presented with a hand-painted plate detailing the chorus’ achievements and 20 Chinese lanterns were released into the Surrey skies. As the lanterns floated into the distance, the gathered singers were amazed and moved to see a shooting star flash through the night sky – an omen for future successes perhaps!
Surrey Harmony will be showcasing their considerable talents in “The Whole Shebang” at Caterham School on Saturday October 23rd. This one-off show will include Broadway showstoppers, band classics and a further selection of popular numbers as you’ve never heard them sung before. For tickets contact the box office on 01883 371971.
Next year Surrey Harmony will be travelling to Houston, Texas, to represent the UK again at the International Contest, where they hope to further improve their world ranking.
