The date: October 2009; The Place: Nashville, Tennessee;, The Event: Sweet Adelines International Competition – Surrey Harmony will compete against some of the best Women’s Barbershop Choruses in the World this year, at the Sweet Adelines International Competition in Nashville, so we wasted no time in getting started with some hardcore coaching from the fabulous Åse Hagerman, Director of the Alba Show Chorus, Sweden.
Åse really knows how to bring out the best from Surrey Harmony and we spent a weekend polishing up our vowels and smoothing out our chorus sound vocal production.
The line-up got a revamp too, as we played musical chairs on the risers, with each member individually placed to get the best chorus sound. There’s even a new face on the front row
Åse worked on the moves with our choreographers, Jackie and Elaine, and everyone loved the new, smoother look to our Original Dixieland One Step, we hope you’ll like them too when we try out our new moves in our upcoming performances.
There was plenty of time for fun too as Saturday night we kicked off our heels for a party, Nashville style – Cowboy hats a plenty, line dancing and lasso contests! While some of the outfits may have be more Strictly Come Dancing than Dances With Wolves, a great time was had by all!
First Prize in the Surrey Harmony Christmas Quiz goes to…Mrs Janet Harrington of Purley!
Well done to everyone who took part in the Surrey Harmony Christmas Quiz.
