Although
she will have only just turned 16 when we sing in Las Vegas, our Tenor
Sorrella is already an International veteran. Sorrella joined Surrey
Harmony in February 2003 after attending an Open Night with her Mum. “I
was hooked from the very first note,” she says.
However there was a problem as under the Chorus rules of the time
Sorrella was too young to join. But given that her Mum, Jan was becoming
a member of the Lead section, a decision was made to let her join as
well.
Having been in Surrey Harmony only six months, Sorrella found herself
on stage at the International Convention in Phoenix. “Wow is all I can
say,” says Sorrella. “The six minutes you get on stage is just not long
enough to absorb the enormity of the venue and the huge number of people
in the auditorium watching and listening to your performance. That week
in Phoenix (when I also celebrated my 13th
birthday) is the outstanding highlight of my time with Surrey Harmony to
date. It would be silly to ask whether or not I am excited about Las
Vegas, I can’t wait!”

singer, but has to balance it with an increasing educational
workload. |
I
am a naturally shy person, but singing with Surrey
Harmony has helped my confidence enormously.
But I love
the team atmosphere – that’s what being a barbershop
singer is all about |

Surrey Harmony is always looking to
recruit young women to our great hobby. For a long time Sorrella
has been our only teenage member. “This has never bothered me, but it’s
great that we now have another two teenagers, Sophie and Alicia. We are
proof that Barbershop can appeal to all ages”.
Sweet Adelines runs a programme designed for young
singers called
Young Women in Harmony.
