Surrey Harmony Women’s Barbershop Chorus

Jean is first Superstar

Our fundraising Queen Jean Dack has been given the title – Surrey Harmony Superstar – the first time the Chorus has given out what is to become an annual award.

Jean was presented with the award at our 2007 AGM by outgoing President Sarah Saysell. The winner will get to keep for a year a beautifully engraved vase which shows Surrey Harmony members in full voice.

Sarah says “Jean’s tireless efforts to raise funds for the Chorus made her the obvious choice for the award. She started our 400 Club to raise money for Las Vegas and that is ongoing, and then she managed to get us on the BBC TV series Car Booty which has helped raise some funds towards our new costume. Now she’s talking about an Easter raffle – she never stops!”

The vase was donated to the Chorus by Suzy RileyThe vase was donated to the Chorus by Suzy Riley, mother of baritone Emma. It took Suzy around 48 hours of engraving time with stunning results. It’s hard to believe it’s just a hobby for her.

The vase will have pride of place at home for the next 12 months said Jean Jean was somewhat surprised to be our first Superstar, but was thrilled to receive the award. “The vase will have pride of place at home for the next 12 months” she said.

Each year the Board will decide which Chorus member has made the biggest contribution over the previous 12 months to earn the title Surrey Harmony Superstar.
