It’s a diverse life in Surrey Harmony. One singing engagement can find you in the sumptuous surroundings of a Royal Palace, the next you are scrabbling into the back of a 30 foot container!

It was a glorious summer day in July when we visited Storrington in West Sussex to take part in their Village Day. To the accompaniment of a generator belching out fumes behind us, we performed our most popular numbers from the back of a 30 foot container, with our quartet Zig-Zag trying to overcome a dodgy microphone in their attempts to be heard.

It may look from the photograph that we were singing to empty chairs but in fact the audience was further back behind a roped-off area.

Maybe they had been warned of the dangers posed by Sweet Adelines falling from a great height!
