Whoever said being on TV was glamorous? Not at
6.15 on a cold and grey Sunday morning it’s not.
Dorking Station Car Park is the less than exotic
location for the next chapter in the Surrey Harmony
Car Booty experience.

The camera crew are already waiting to film
tables being erected and boots being emptied.
There’s barely time to unload before our tables are
swamped and the bargaining begins, all under the
scrutiny of the camera lens. Judith’s experience of
wheeling and dealing on Ebay means she’s no soft
touch for the dealers. Jenny’s turning blue with
cold and it’s still only 8.30. Thank goodness tea
and biscuits arrive.
More
Chorus members turn up and the singing begins. One
cameraman looks very worried on being told there are
more than 70 of us in the Chorus. He’s afraid he
might have to film every single one of us!
Jean and Veronica are rigged up with microphones
again for filming sequences but look slightly
alarmed when it begins to rain - they are afraid of
being electrocuted!
One of our star items is a gold charm bracelet.
It’s been valued at between £120 and £150. A dealer
with a magnifier inspects it closely. After some
hard bargaining a price of £120 is agreed – result!
Meanwhile
Barbara Porter is visiting experts to discuss the
medical instruments and also the Chinese plates.
Michael Cohen specialises in Chinese porcelain and
holds the world record sale price for a piece of
Chinese export - £2.1 million for a pair of
porcelain leopards.
He’s not offering quite so much for
the plates which belonged to Lead Christina Divall.
But both sides agree a deal.
Back at Dorking it’s been a very long, tiring and
wet day as everyone packs up to go home.
At the end
of it all we’ve raised £500 towards our new costume
which will also been seen on the programme modelled
by our Choreographer Kären Lainchbury who designed
it.
For all the Surrey Harmony members who got
involved with Car Booty it been a great experience.
Thanks to Lorne and Mark and the whole team for
making it so interesting and such fun. We can’t wait
to see the end result.
Watch this space for the
transmission date!
