• What is Barbershop Singing?
  It is a four part a cappella style of singing. Originally sung by men, the part names have been adopted by women now, so we still use the parts- Lead (sings the melody), Tenor (sings above the lead), Baritone (sings both above and below the lead), Bass (for those of you with very low voices- who can sing comfortably in the octave below middle C!)
• How would I know which part I might be able to sing?
  When you come to Surrey Harmony you will get a chance to listen to the chorus rehearsing and to hear the different parts before you have a simple voice test. Our Director Jenny will tell you which voice part you will be best in.
• Do I need to be able to read music to join SURREY HARMONY?
  No - We learn most of our music from prepared tapes.

  	Surrey Harmony run a Young Women In Harmony programme which teaches emerging voices the skills, joy and rewards of performing and singing four-part harmony, barbershop style... Young Women in Harmony delivers both musical excellence and education while it gives young women a taste of show business.
